A plane carrying tourists for a skydiving trip crashed in Tomblaine, near Nancy, France, at around 11:00 local time on Sunday, June 28, 2026, killing at least 11 people. The aircraft came down near Salvador Allende Street, close to a cemetery exit.
Casualties and Victims
According to reports, the dead include five instructors, five students, and the experienced pilot. Three individuals were thrown from the aircraft, the Daily Star reported. French outlet L'Est Republicain identified the victims as independent nurses from Nancy who were skydiving for the first time.
Emergency Response
Thierry Pechey, president of the Meurthe-et-Moselle branch of the Order of Independent Nurses, is at the scene. Local reports indicate a potential danger of the aircraft exploding. Two emergency medical teams have left the site with flashing lights, according to France3.
A cordon has been established, and police are urging the public to avoid the Salvador Allende Street area entirely. Meurthe-et-Moselle national police posted on X: "Imperatively avoid the Salvador Allende Street area entirely. To keep access clear for emergency services and law enforcement, do not go to the scene."
Official Statements
The Meurthe-et-Moselle prefecture confirmed the crash involved a civilian aircraft that departed from the Nancy-Essey aerodrome. In a statement, it said: "An incident is currently underway in the municipality of Tomblaine involving a civil aircraft that took off from Nancy-Essey aerodrome. Yves SÉGUY, prefect of Meurthe-et-Moselle, has decided to activate the departmental operational center (COD) in the presence of all operational services in order to ensure real-time monitoring of the event. The prefect is on site."
The Interior Minister is expected to address the media at around 16:30 local time.
