Budget airline Wizz Air has significantly expanded its network from London Luton Airport, announcing six brand new routes set to commence in the summer of 2026. The expansion is supported by the addition of a new Airbus A321 neo aircraft at the hub, bringing the carrier's total based fleet there to 15 planes.
New Destinations and Launch Details
The new destinations, which will increase Wizz Air's total UK routes from Luton to 66, include a mix of popular European holiday spots and a pioneering connection to Asia. The headline addition is Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, a route previously unserved directly from London. Flights to Yerevan will begin on June 12, 2026, operating twice weekly with fares starting from £36.99.
The other five routes launching are all to well-established European destinations:
- Alicante: Five weekly flights from June 12, from £17.99.
- Lyon: Three weekly flights from June 13, from £17.99.
- Corfu: This becomes Wizz Air's fifth Greek island destination. Flights will run twice weekly from June 13, from £45.99.
- Faro: Four weekly flights, from £17.99.
- Turin: Three weekly flights from June 13, from £17.99.
Strategic Growth and Market Impact
Yvonne Moynihan, Managing Director at Wizz Air UK, described the new routes as 'exciting' and stated the move underlines the airline's commitment to London Luton Airport and the UK market. 'Securing additional slots at Luton strengthens our competitive position in the London market,' she said, highlighting the first-ever direct connection from London to Armenia as a key feature.
Simon Harley, Interim Director of Aeronautical Revenue at London Luton Airport, welcomed the announcement, noting it sets up a 'bumper summer 2026'. He emphasised that the partnership with Wizz Air continues to provide greater choice and a simple experience for the millions of passengers using the airport annually.
A Boost for Tourism and Travel Choice
The new route to Yerevan opens up a destination that saw 2.2 million tourists in 2024, following steady growth since the pandemic. For UK travellers, it provides a new, affordable gateway to a culturally rich destination. The expansion into other European cities and sun destinations further cements Luton Airport's role as a major base for low-cost travel, offering British holidaymakers more options for both city breaks and beach holidays.
