Virgin Atlantic has announced a transformative upgrade for all its passengers, confirming it will begin rolling out free, high-speed Starlink satellite internet across its fleet starting in May 2026. This major change promises to revolutionise how travellers spend their hours in the air, offering seamless connectivity from take-off to landing.
A New Era of In-Flight Connectivity
The airline will commence installation of the Starlink system on its Airbus A350 aircraft from May 2026, with the inaugural service expected on flight VS153 from London Heathrow to New York JFK in early May. Virgin Atlantic states this marks the beginning of an extensive rollout across its long-haul fleet, aiming to equip all Airbus A350s by early summer.
Fleet-Wide Implementation Timeline
Following the initial phase, installation will expand to Boeing 787 planes later in 2026, reaching approximately two-thirds of the fleet by year-end. The remaining Airbus A330neo aircraft are scheduled to follow, with complete fleet coverage anticipated by 2027. This initiative positions Virgin Atlantic as the first UK airline to commit to providing free, fleet-wide Starlink connectivity, a partnership first announced in July 2025.
Superior Technology and Passenger Benefits
Unlike traditional in-flight Wi-Fi that relies on older satellite systems, Starlink's low-Earth-orbit satellite network is designed to deliver significantly lower latency and higher speeds. According to Ookla, this technology can achieve speeds comparable to fixed broadband in some cases, ensuring reliable internet even over remote areas like oceans.
Passengers will enjoy this service completely free of charge as part of their journey, enabling them to scroll social media, stream TV shows or films, make video calls, and browse the internet on multiple devices simultaneously. Virgin Atlantic's Flying Club members will access the service at no extra cost, enhancing the value of their loyalty programme.

Juha Järvinen, Chief Customer Officer at Virgin Atlantic, emphasised the airline's commitment: "We were the first UK airline to announce free, fleet-wide Starlink Wi-Fi, and from May, we’re starting to deliver it for our customers." He added that the goal is to achieve full connectivity across the fleet by 2027, part of a broader push to create a "brilliantly connected experience" for passengers.
