Bluestone's Steep Ravine Reopens After Two-Year Storm Closure
UK Tourist Attraction Reopens After Storm Closure

A UK tourist attraction has welcomed visitors back this week after being closed for two years due to storm damage. The Steep Ravine at Bluestone National Park Resort in Pembrokeshire was shut in December 2024 when Storm Darragh tore through the country, remaining off-limits until this week.

Restoration and New Attractions

During the restoration programme, woodland areas damaged by the storms have been rehabilitated. Fallen timber and natural woodland debris have been deliberately retained within the Ravine to help restore soil nutrients and promote fresh plant growth. Visitors can now explore the revamped Ravine, which boasts new attractions including the 'Summit Flight', a thrilling 279-metre zip line experience, and the 'Double Glide' — shorter zip lines intended to build confidence gradually.

Return of Camp Smokey and Smokey Joe's Shindig

The reopening also signals the return of Camp Smokey and Smokey Joe's Shindig. Camp Smokey is a rustic outdoor eatery at the base of the Ravine, offering lunch, barbecue feasts and marshmallow toasting. Smokey Joe's Shindig caters for evening entertainment with family sing-alongs and dancing.

James McNamara, director of product and programme development at Bluestone, said: "We know how special the Steep Ravine is to so many of our guests and closing it back in 2024 was not a decision we took lightly. The storm damage meant the area was no longer safe, so it was important that we took the time to restore the Ravine carefully and responsibly, working closely with specialists throughout the process. We've treated this special place with real care and respect. It means a great deal to our guests and our team, and we're proud to be reopening it in a way that keeps its spirit alive."

Summer Getaways and Pembrokeshire Highlights

Summer getaways at Bluestone begin from £400, based on a four-night stay at a Caldey Lodge with arrival on June 8, 2026. Beyond Bluestone, there are numerous compelling reasons to visit Pembrokeshire. The charming coastal village of Saundersfoot was recently crowned the best seaside town in the UK for 2026, while the county is also home to the Blue Lagoon — one of the most breathtaking wild swimming locations in the country.
