Two in hospital after A19 crash causes 45-minute delays

Two people have been taken to hospital following a collision on the A19 in Sunderland this morning, which caused major rush hour delays. Emergency services were called to a two-vehicle collision on the A19 Northbound near the A1231 junction shortly after 7am on Wednesday 24 June.

Crash leads to five-mile tailbacks

National Highways reported five-mile tailbacks and 45-minute delays during rush hour as two of three lanes were closed. The road has since reopened. Drivers experienced significant disruption in the area as emergency services worked at the scene.

Police and ambulance response

Northumbria Police confirmed that officers had attended the scene and that minor injuries had been reported. The North East Ambulance Service dispatched one ambulance crew, and two patients were taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital.

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to a road traffic incident on the A19 Northbound near the A1231 junction in Sunderland shortly after 7am on Wednesday 24 June. We dispatched one ambulance crew and two patients were taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital."
