Two Dead in Essex Plane Crash During Flight Experience

Two individuals have died following the crash of a small aircraft during a short flight experience in Essex, police have confirmed. The two-seat Cessna plane came down in a field off Mill Lane, Ongar, on Tuesday after departing from North Weald airfield, approximately seven miles away.

Details of the Incident

The aircraft, a two-seat Cessna, took off from North Weald airfield on what was expected to be a short journey. However, it crashed in a field in Ongar at around 12:30pm. Emergency services were called by members of the public who reported the crash.

Detective Chief Superintendent Morgan Cronin, from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, said: "The two-seat Cessna aircraft was carrying out a short flight experience but sadly it did not return. At 12.30pm (on Tuesday) we were contacted by members of the public who reported a small aircraft had crashed in a field off Mill Lane, Ongar. Sadly we can now confirm that the two people on board have died. Formal identification has yet to take place."

Investigation Underway

The identities of the two occupants have not yet been officially confirmed. Police are working to formally identify the deceased and notify their next of kin. The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) has been informed and will investigate the cause of the crash.

The crash site remains cordoned off as investigators examine the wreckage. No other injuries have been reported.
