Six passengers sustained injuries during an emergency evacuation after a Swiss International flight from Delhi to Zurich was forced to abort its takeoff early on Sunday, according to a source familiar with the matter.
Incident Details
The incident occurred when one of the aircraft's engines failed and caught fire as the plane was accelerating for takeoff. The crew immediately halted the aircraft and initiated an emergency evacuation, as reported by the Economic Times.
The source, who was not authorised to speak to the media and requested anonymity, confirmed that the injured passengers were transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
Aircraft and Airport Response
The aircraft involved was an Airbus A330, according to flight tracking data from Flightradar24.
Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport declared an emergency following the incident on flight LX147, as announced earlier on X (formerly Twitter). The airport later confirmed that runway operations had resumed and all other flights were operating on schedule.
Delhi airport, which is India's busiest, operates four runways.
Swiss International Airlines had not responded to a request for comment at the time of reporting.
