Ryanair brings forward bag drop cut-off to 60 minutes from 10 November
Ryanair bag drop cut-off moves to 60 minutes from 10 Nov

Ryanair is changing its bag drop rules from 10 November, requiring passengers with checked luggage to drop their bags 60 minutes before departure rather than the current 40 minutes.

The change affects around 20% of the airline's passengers who travel with checked luggage. Those with a 10kg or 20kg hold bag must ensure it is fully processed at least one hour before their flight departs.

Reason for the change

Ryanair CMO Dara Brady said: "This small change will give the 20% of Ryanair passengers who check in a bag, more time to clear airport security and passport control queues and get to their departure gate before boarding begins, particularly during busy travel periods when airport queues can be longer." He added that passengers should arrive at the airport in good time to meet the new deadline.

The remaining 80% of passengers who check in online with cabin baggage only are completely unaffected. They can continue to skip the check-in desks and go straight through airport security as normal.

Advice for passengers

Passengers are strongly advised to arrive at the airport with plenty of time to spare, as Ryanair does not issue refunds for missed flights.
