A person has been hit by a train between London Waterloo and Clapham Junction, leading to severe disruption across the capital's rail network this evening. All lines between the two stations were closed while emergency services attended the scene, causing cancellations, revisions, and major delays.
The incident compounded existing problems, including emergency track repairs in south-west London and an earlier obstruction at Clapham Junction. Trains running through the station were delayed by up to 40 minutes or revised. Additionally, a fire brigade incident near the railway between East Croydon and Purley blocked all lines, with disruption expected until around 8pm.
National Rail confirmed that all trains in the area were at a standstill, with significant delays and cancellations expected across the network. Windsor, Reading, and suburban services were suspended, and passengers were urged to consider alternative transport. Tickets were accepted on London Buses, Weaver line, Suffragette line, Great Northern, Thameslink, Greater Anglia, and Southeastern services.
After emergency services completed their work, all lines between London Waterloo and Clapham Junction reopened. However, trains may still be delayed by up to two hours, revised, or cancelled while services recover. Passengers are advised to use local alternatives or speak to station staff for assistance.
