Schroders Capital has invested millions in a new car park at Mermaid Quay in Cardiff Bay, which opened after more than a year of construction. The facility provides 679 parking spaces and 70 bike spots, doubling the capacity of the former car park on the same site.
Eight-Storey Structure With Modern Technology
The new car park has eight floors, two more than the previous structure, and was built by Goldbeck Construction. It features ticketless parking technology with automatic number plate recognition and cashless payment systems to improve traffic flow.
Adjacent to the car park, a new public artwork coordinated by Studio Response and created by artist Aidan Myers with support from Phil Cheater has been installed. The artwork is inspired by botanical scenery.
Enhanced Visitor Experience
Mermaid Quay attracts millions of visitors each year and offers 150,000 sq ft of waterfront development, including restaurants and retail outlets. Centre manager Mark Lemon said: "We are delighted to see the new car park open and ready to welcome visitors ahead of what promises to be a very busy summer season in Cardiff Bay."
Lemon added: "Mermaid Quay attracts millions of visitors every year and this investment will make it easier than ever for people to visit and enjoy everything the area has to offer. What is particularly pleasing is that the development is about much more than parking. The landscaping, biodiversity enhancements and public artwork all help create a more attractive and welcoming environment for visitors and local residents alike, reflecting the ongoing investment being made in Cardiff Bay as a destination."
Prepared for Summer Season
With improved parking capacity and enhanced visitor facilities now in place, Mermaid Quay is well positioned to welcome even more visitors to Cardiff Bay this summer and beyond.
