Merseyrail Hunts Cross line suspended for a month from Sunday

Merseyrail services between Hunts Cross and Moorfields will be suspended for four weeks from Sunday, October 11, with rail replacement buses stepping in for the duration.

The line will remain closed until Saturday, November 7, while Network Rail carries out what it describes as "essential engineering work". The £3.5m project involves strengthening and waterproofing four tunnels that bring Northern line services into Liverpool from the south.

Replacement bus services and stations covered

Merseyrail has confirmed that rail replacement buses will serve all stations affected by the closure: Hunts Cross, Liverpool South Parkway, Cressington, Aigburth, St Michaels, Brunswick and Moorfields. Liverpool Central, although on the route, will not be covered by the replacement buses.

The operator said the buses will run as closely as possible to the usual train timetable. However, passengers are advised that replacement buses can take longer than train journeys, and are urged to allow extra time and plan ahead using the Merseyrail website and app.

Tickets, Tap & Go and journey advice

Valid Merseyrail tickets will be accepted on all rail replacement bus services. Passengers using the Tap & Go system should tap in and out at a station validator. Anyone who forgets to tap out can register on the MetroSmart website to add the missing tap and avoid an incomplete journey charge.
