Train services on Merseyrail's Hunts Cross line will be suspended for a month from Sunday, October 11, due to major engineering works. The suspension begins on the same day Liverpool FC host Manchester City at Anfield in a Premier League fixture scheduled for 4.30pm.
Services cancelled for four weeks
All services running between Hunts Cross and Moorfields will cease operations on Sunday, October 11, and will not return to normal until Saturday, November 7. This includes the cancellation of services to and from Sandhills station.
Merseyrail confirmed that rail replacement buses will serve the stations without rail services during this period, including Sandhills, Hunts Cross, Liverpool South Parkway, Cressington, Aigburth, St Michaels, Brunswick and Moorfields. Liverpool Central is on this route but is not covered by the replacement buses.
Travel advice for fans
The operator said its rail replacement buses will run as closely as possible to the usual train timetable. Customers are advised that rail replacement buses can take longer than train journeys, and allowing extra time and planning ahead using the Merseyrail website and app is advised.
For thousands of fans travelling to Anfield, Sandhills station typically acts as one of the main transportation hubs, with passengers walking the extra 2km distance to Anfield or taking the Soccerbus. The station is also used by away fans travelling in from the city centre.
Replacement bus services
Rail replacement bus services will be available, but none from Liverpool Central Station. The quickest way to get from the city centre to Sandhills is via Moorfields, where rail replacement bus services will run approximately every ten minutes, with a scheduled journey time of ten minutes.
Train services will be running as usual between Southport and Liverpool Central, Ormskirk and Liverpool Central, and Headbolt Lane and Liverpool Central.
