Passengers heading to Manchester Airport should be aware of travel disruption from today. Train services, including some routes to Liverpool Lime Street, will be affected due to overnight engineering work which starts tonight (Monday, August 17).
Schedule changes and replacement buses
People travelling on routes to and via the airport should be aware of schedule changes and replacement buses, which will remain in place until Friday, August 21. Some trains which would usually run directly to Manchester Airport will terminate at Manchester Piccadilly, Manchester Oxford Road or Stockport.
Lines affected include Transport for Wales between Holyhead / Llandudno Junction and Manchester Airport. National Rail said: "Engineering work is taking place overnight between Wilmslow and Manchester Piccadilly, closing some lines."
Routes to Liverpool Lime Street will be also affected by the overnight work.
Specific service changes
From Monday to Thursday this week, the 10.44pm Wilmslow to Liverpool Lime Street Northern service will start from Manchester Oxford Road. A bus will be provided from Wilmslow to Liverpool Lime Street, calling at stations via Manchester Airport and stopping to drop off only from Manchester Piccadilly.
The 11pm Liverpool Lime Street to Manchester Airport service will terminate at Manchester Piccadilly. A bus will be provided from Manchester Piccadilly to Manchester Airport.
Other services affected include Blackpool North to Manchester Airport, Manchester Piccadilly to Wilmslow, Manchester Airport to Blackpool North and Manchester Piccadilly to Manchester Airport.
Advice for travellers
People travelling should check online for the latest information, including whether their route is disrupted or cancelled. Advice from National Rail said: "Please be advised that replacement vehicles may be busier than usual, and you should allow extra time for your journey."
Holidaymakers who land late into the evening should be particularly aware, as the 11.17pm Manchester Airport to Blackpool North service will only start from Stockport. The 4.48am Manchester Airport to Blackpool North service will start from Manchester Piccadilly.

Monday to Thursday
- The 8.02pm Holyhead to Manchester Airport service will terminate at Manchester Oxford Road with an onward rail replacement bus being provided towards Manchester Airport (Manchester Piccadilly at 11.06pm - Pickup only, East Didsbury at 11.31pm and Manchester Airport at 11.41pm).
- The 9.21pm Blackpool North to Manchester Airport service will terminate at Stockport. A bus will be provided from Manchester Oxford Road to Manchester Airport.
- The 10.23pm Blackpool North to Manchester Airport service will terminate at Manchester Piccadilly. A bus will be provided from Manchester Piccadilly to Manchester Airport.
- The 10.36pm Manchester Piccadilly to Wilmslow service will terminate at Manchester Airport. A bus will be provided from Manchester Airport to Wilmslow.
- The 10.44pm Wilmslow to Liverpool Lime Street service will start from Manchester Oxford Road. A bus will be provided from Wilmslow to Liverpool Lime Street, calling at stations via Manchester Airport and stopping to drop off only from Manchester Piccadilly.
- The 11pm Liverpool Lime Street to Manchester Airport service will terminate at Manchester Piccadilly. A bus will be provided from Manchester Piccadilly to Manchester Airport.
- The 11.17pm Manchester Airport to Blackpool North service will start from Stockport. A bus will be provided from Manchester Airport to Blackpool North, stopping to drop off only from Manchester Oxford Road.
- The 11.22pm Blackpool North to Manchester Airport service will terminate at Manchester Piccadilly. A bus will be provided from Manchester Piccadilly to Manchester Airport.
- The 11.25pm Manchester Airport to Llandudno Junction service will start from Manchester Oxford Road at 11.46pm. Advice said: "Your ticket will be accepted at no extra cost on Northern rail replacement buses between Manchester Oxford Road and Manchester Airport, allowing customers to connect onto the 11.46pm Manchester Oxford Road to Holyhead and 00.24am Manchester Piccadilly to Chester service."
- The 11.37pm Manchester Piccadilly to Manchester Airport train will not run and will be replaced by a bus.
- The 11.46pm Manchester Airport to Blackpool North service will start from Manchester Piccadilly. A bus will be provided from Manchester Airport to Blackpool North, stopping to drop off only from Manchester Piccadilly.
Tuesday to Friday
- The 00.44am Crewe to Manchester Piccadilly service will not call at Manchester Airport. A bus will be provided between Crewe to Manchester Piccadilly, calling at Manchester Airport.
- The 4.48am Manchester Airport to Blackpool North service will start from Manchester Piccadilly.
