Manchester Airport half-term: 1m passengers, drop-off reminder

Manchester Airport is preparing for more than a million passengers during the October half-term getaway, with updated drop-off and pick-up parking rules in force. Drivers using the barrierless forecourt or Terminal 2 West Multi-Storey (P3) must pay online or by phone before midnight the day after their visit, unless they pre-booked.

Popular destinations and parking changes

Popular sun spots like Alicante, Antalya, Tenerife, and Malaga top the destination list, alongside autumnal city breaks to Derry, Frankfurt, Prague, and Bucharest for Halloween-themed trips.

Following last year's introduction of a barrierless forecourt drop-off system, the Terminal 2 West Multi-Storey (P3) now also operates barrierless, allowing free entry and exit without stopping at traditional barriers to reduce road congestion. A free alternative is available at JetParks 1, which offers a 24/7 shuttle bus service with a five-minute ride to the terminal doors.

Terminal 2 transformation and performance

Passengers in Terminal 2 will see the benefits of Manchester Airports Group's £1.5bn terminal transformation project, featuring an expanded departures lounge with new retail and dining options, including The Belle Vue (the airport's first Wetherspoon's pub), Great Northern Market food hall, Joe & The Juice, Upper Crust, LEGO, Rituals, and Pandora.

Operational performance remains strong, with 97% of passengers passing through security in under 15 minutes since April.

Jennifer Byrne-Smith, Director of Customer Operations at Manchester Airport, said: "We're looking forward to October half-term, and to helping hundreds of thousands of passengers on their way to their favourite destinations."

"Wherever you're going this autumn, we're here to make sure your trip gets off to the right start – but it's important you plan ahead, and make sure you've made all the necessary arrangements ahead of time," she added. "We know that many passengers travelling during this half-term period may not have travelled through the airport since last year or even longer – so it's worth just reacquainting yourself with things like security rules and the check-in process."

Travel tips for half-term passengers

Passengers are advised to complete online check-in prior to arrival where possible. Those with hold luggage who live locally can use day-before twilight bag drop services offered by select airlines, which include free parking during the drop-off window.

Arrive according to airline guidance – typically 2 hours before short-haul flights and 3 hours before long-haul flights. Security lanes now allow liquids and electronics to remain in hand luggage, but containers must still adhere to the 100ml limit while awaiting Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) approval to lift the restriction.

Travellers requiring assistance should pre-book through their airline at least 48 hours in advance. Passengers can also pre-book Express services like Security FastTrack, TimeSlot, Passport Control FastTrack, or the airport's premium terminal experience, aether. Parents are encouraged to talk young children through the security process and pack toys, activities, and snacks in hand luggage.
