M62 Delays After Car Fire Shuts Two Lanes

Drivers are facing major queues on the M62 eastbound after a car fire prompted emergency services to attend the scene near junction 22. Two lanes have been shut by police, and motorists have been warned to expect delays.

Incident Details

The car fire occurred on the eastbound carriageway between junction 22 (A672, Rishworth Moor) and junction 23 (A640 New Hey Road, Huddersfield). Traffic monitoring service Inrix reports long delays and two lanes closed due to a spillage and the earlier fire.

Congestion is stretching back to junction 21 (Milnrow), with traffic also heavy on the opposite carriageway following a brief hold back to junction 25 (Brighouse).

Separate Incident on M6

The disruption comes as a section of the M6 is also shut following a separate lorry fire, causing major delays on that motorway today.
