A Swansea man has been jailed after scrawling derogatory words on a woman who appeared to be asleep before raping her. Caeran Evans, 27, was found guilty by a jury of rape and sexual assault after carrying out a "heinous and calculated" attack for "perverse self-gratification" in October 2024.
Attack details
Evans had offered a female a lift home after a night out. Later that evening, a video was recorded and shared on messaging groups depicting Evans consuming drugs placed on the woman's body whilst she appeared to be asleep. Sexually degrading words had also been written on her body.
Detective Inspector Meirian Evans said: "Caeran Evans took advantage of his intoxicated victim in a heinous and calculated way. That he knew he was being filmed and still carried on for some kind of perverse self-gratification only makes the situation unimaginably more abhorrent."
Sentencing
Evans, from Penlan, pleaded guilty to sexual assault at Swansea Crown Court in December 2025, but, following trial, he was later found guilty of rape by a jury on September 16. He was sentenced to seven years in prison and made subject to a restraining order against the woman for a period of 15 years.
"Thankfully, the court saw through his protestations and the guilty verdict and seven-year sentence shows that justice has been achieved for the victim," added DI Evans. "We commend her on her bravery in coming forward to report what Caeran Evans did to her, and hope that she can now begin to move on with her life."
Police response and support
South Wales Police said officers never underestimate how difficult it is for survivors of sexual abuse to speak out and report, but they hope cases like this one provide reassurance that victims will be listened to, treated with dignity and respect, and will be supported throughout the judicial process.
