A routine Jetstar flight from Melbourne to the holiday island of Bali turned into a mid-air nightmare as pilots were forced to execute a dramatic emergency U-turn mere minutes from landing.
The harrowing incident aboard flight JQ43 occurred on Monday when the Airbus A321 suddenly lost cabin pressure, causing oxygen masks to drop from the ceiling and sending passengers into a panic.
One shaken traveller described the terrifying moments: "The plane suddenly dropped and the oxygen masks came down. There was a loud bang and then we felt a sudden change in pressure. People were screaming and crying—it was absolutely terrifying."
The aircraft, which had been approaching Bali's Denpasar Airport, abruptly aborted its landing procedure. Instead, pilots initiated a rapid ascent to a safer altitude before declaring a full emergency and turning back toward Australian airspace.
Seven Hours of Uncertainty
Passengers endured an agonising seven-hour return journey before the plane touched down safely in Melbourne. Emergency services, including fire crews and ambulances, were placed on standby as a precautionary measure.
"The cabin crew were fantastic throughout the whole ordeal," another passenger noted. "They remained calm and professional despite the frightening circumstances."

Jetstar confirmed the aircraft experienced a "technical issue" related to cabin pressure and praised both cockpit and cabin crews for their handling of the emergency situation.
