Jet2 has pledged not to add fuel surcharges to flight or holiday prices until at least summer 2028, a commitment that applies to all bookings made through any channel.
Conflict in the Middle East has driven oil prices to record levels, leading some airlines worldwide to introduce additional charges to offset the cost. These fuel surcharges can be added to the price of a flight or holiday package even after the booking is confirmed, a practice that has drawn criticism from politicians and consumer champions who consider it unfair and, in some cases, excessive.
Industry Context and Jet2's Commitment
In April, Virgin Atlantic was reported to have added fuel surcharges of £50 in economy, £180 in premium economy and £360 in business class. On Friday, October 23, Jet2 announced it would not add fuel surcharges on holidays booked between this winter and summer 2028.
Jet2 said it was the first airline to commit to removing the clause in its contract that would allow for such a charge, even though it had never applied one. The promise applies to all Jet2 flights and holidays booked online, through the mobile app, or via independent travel agents.
Customer Reassurance
David Hills, chief customer officer at Jet2, said: "Customers work and save hard for their holidays so they deserve certainty from the moment they book. As they plan their getaways this winter and beyond, we are reaffirming our No Fuel Surcharges guarantee."
He added: "We are making it clear that the price customers book with Jet2 is the price they will pay, with no fuel surcharge added later. That reassurance applies to all customers booking with Jet2, whatever time of year they choose to travel, making now the perfect time to book a well-deserved holiday."
