Hundreds of Wirral homes without power after overnight cut

Hundreds of homes across Wirral are without electricity this morning after a power cut overnight. People living in the Moreton, Upton and Hoylake areas are waking up and realising the power is off.

Scottish Power are aware of the incident and an emergency engineer is currently en route. One person, living in Moreton, said they realised the power was off when their house alarm started to go off just before 6am. This was followed by more alarms along the street also going off, after the power outage.

Scottish Power response

Scottish Power shared details about the power cut on the incident page on their website. They said: "There is a power cut in the CH46 and CH49 postcode area of WIRRAL."

"We will attempt to reset the network remotely to restore power in stages, and our emergency response team are on their way to the area to investigate the cause of the fault."

Restoration timeline

"We are aiming to have your power restored by 13/10/2026, 08:04. We are sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience."

Scottish Power dispatched an engineer at 6.18am and they are expected to be on site soon. The company is aiming to have the power restored just after 8am.

Safety advice

Scottish Power shared some advice of what to do during a power cut. They advised: unplug sensitive appliances such as TVs, satellite equipment and computers; switch off and unplug appliances especially items such as fires, cookers, irons and hair straighteners in case you forget they’re on when power is restored; leave a light switched on so you know when power is restored; avoid opening your fridge or freezer more than necessary; check on elderly or vulnerable neighbours to ensure they are safe and comfortable; street lighting may also be off so take care outside; during cold weather, dress warmly using several layers of clothing; many central heating systems and water heaters will not work, portable heaters are a good alternative but take care where you put them; limit the use of your laptop or smart phone to save battery power; when power is restored turn your appliances back on one at a time; livestock, fish and pets may be vulnerable during a power cut, ensure adequate provision is made and contact the RSPCA for further details.
