Eight Injured in A1 Crash After Car Drives Wrong Way

Eight people were injured, two seriously, in a head-on collision on the A1 in Northumberland after a car was driven the wrong way down the carriageway. The crash occurred at around 7.30pm on Saturday, February 21, on the southbound A1 at Rosebrough, between Alnwick and Belford.

A blue Audi Q3, initially travelling north, entered the southbound carriageway for an unknown reason and collided with a silver Mitsubishi Mirage travelling south. Both vehicles sustained significant damage. The Audi carried five occupants, the Mitsubishi three.

Emergency services treated eight patients at the scene. Two suffered serious head and leg injuries, while six had minor injuries. Seven were taken to Northumbria Hospital in Cramlington, and one to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle. A man in his 40s with serious injuries remains in a stable condition.
