easyJet Issues Critical Travel Update for Spain and European Destinations
easyJet has issued an important update for passengers travelling to Spain and many other European destinations, urging them to follow six key steps ahead of their journeys. The airline released this notice earlier this month, affecting over 100 airports across the continent.
New Border Checks Post-Brexit
This significant rule change has come into force following Brexit, with the implementation of the European Entry/Exit System (EES). In an important update released on April 1, easyJet warned that queue times may be disrupted at passport control across European airports.
The airline stated: "Airports across Europe may experience longer queues at passport control whilst the new European Entry/Exit System (EES) border checks are being completed. This will mean you may need to have your biometrics taken including your face and fingerprints scanned."
Six Key Steps for Smooth Travel
To ensure your journey runs as smoothly as possible, easyJet is requesting that passengers do the following:
- Plan your travel to and through the airport, as you may experience longer queues
- If you need to go to Bag Drop, go there as soon as it opens
- Make your way through security as early as possible
- Be aware that there may be additional checks at passport control before your gate
- Head to the gate or boarding area as soon as it's announced
- Make sure you have the correct documents to travel
Arrival Airport Considerations
The airline further warns: "You may experience longer queues in your arrival airport." This applies to all 29 countries participating in the EES system.
Countries Affected by EES
The European Entry/Exit System applies to 29 countries:
- Austria
- Belgium
- Bulgaria
- Croatia
- Czechia
- Denmark
- Estonia
- Finland
- France
- Germany
- Greece
- Hungary
- Iceland
- Italy
- Latvia
- Liechtenstein
- Lithuania
- Luxembourg
- Malta
- Netherlands
- Norway
- Poland
- Portugal
- Romania
- Slovakia
- Slovenia
- Spain
- Sweden
- Switzerland
Passengers are advised to allow extra time for their journeys and ensure they have all necessary documentation ready for inspection at border control points.
