With the summer holidays approaching, travellers flying with easyJet or Ryanair need to be aware of the latest mobile boarding pass rules to avoid issues at the airport. Both airlines have updated their policies, with Ryanair moving to a fully digital system since November 2025.
Ryanair's 100% Digital Boarding Pass Policy
Ryanair has confirmed it has “moved to 100% Digital Boarding Passes (DBP).” This means all passengers will receive a digital boarding pass to their Ryanair App when they check in online. Passengers must check in online via Ryanair.com or the app before arriving at the airport. After check-in, the boarding pass appears automatically in the app and must be presented at security and the boarding gate.
The airline says the shift to fully digital boarding passes lowers airport costs and fares, provides better service with real-time flight info, improves customer service during disruptions, and is better for the environment – eliminating 300 tonnes of paper annually.
If a passenger loses their device or the battery dies, they will be issued a complimentary boarding pass at the airport. Those without a smartphone or tablet who have checked in online will also receive a free boarding pass at the airport, but will miss out on real-time flight updates and enhanced disruption support. Passengers who do not check in online before arriving will have to pay the airport check-in fee.
EasyJet's Mobile Boarding Pass Rules and Airport Exceptions
EasyJet encourages passengers to use mobile boarding passes, which can be stored in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet for offline access. However, not all airports accept them. The airline lists the following airports that do not currently accept mobile boarding passes: Izmir (ADB), Agadir (AGA), Antalya (AYT), Aqaba (AQJ), Belgrade (BEG), Djerba (DJE), Essaouira (ESU), Harstad (EVE), Hurghada (HRG), Sitia (JSH), Luxor (LXR), Enfidha-Hammamet (NBE), Marrakech (RAK), Rabat Sale (RBA), Marsa Alam (RMF), Scandinavian Mountains (SCR), Cairo Sphinx (SPX), and Sharm El Sheikh (SSH).
Passengers flying from these airports must check in online and print a paper boarding pass. Many of these airports also require a document check before security; travellers should go to the bag drop for a document check before proceeding to security.
Both airlines advise passengers to plan ahead and check the specific requirements for their departure airport to ensure a smooth journey.
