Driverless Car Hits Lollipop Man Outside Fife School

An 85-year-old lollipop man was rushed to hospital after being struck by a runaway car that rolled down a hill outside a school in Fife. The incident occurred outside St Kenneth's primary school on Hill Road in Ballingry at approximately 9:10 am on Tuesday, 23 June 2026.

The pensioner was taken to Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy for treatment. No further information on his condition has been released at this stage. Police confirmed that the car was unoccupied at the time of the crash, having rolled down the hill before hitting the crossing patrol officer.

A Police Scotland spokesperson stated: “Around 9.10am on Tuesday, 23 June, 2026, we were called to a report of a man struck by an unoccupied car which had rolled down Hill Road, Ballingry, Lochgelly. The 85-year-old man was taken to the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy.”

Council Support and Investigation

Fife Council confirmed they will support the lollipop man in his recovery and cooperate with police during the investigation. Service Manager Melanie Arthur said: “A school crossing patrol officer was struck by a car earlier today while on duty. We’ll support Police Scotland with their enquiries, and our thoughts are very much with our colleague as they recover.”
