Drivers across nine Greater Manchester boroughs should watch out for 32 sets of roadworks this week, with possible delays on key routes in Bolton, Bury, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Stockport, Tameside, and Wigan.
Roadworks can be carried out for a number of reasons, including changes being made to a road, emergency repairs, and work by utility companies. A 2025 parliamentary transport committee report said: “They can also be a source of frustration for anyone trying to get around on roads and pavements by causing congestion and delays that harm the economy, disrupt transport services and limit access to high streets and businesses.”

Bolton and Bury roadworks
In Bolton, the A673 Topp Way has a lane closed in both directions at B6206 Higher Bridge Street until 30th November. Temporary traffic lights are in place on the A6172 Great Moor Street near Soho Street until 16:00 on 23rd April 2027.
In Bury, temporary traffic lights are operating on the B6292 Ainsworth Road in Radcliffe near Denham Street until 0:00 on 21st October, due to emergency repairs and gas main work.
Manchester and Oldham closures
In Manchester, the A6010 Alan Turing Way is closed northbound from A635 Ashton Old Road to Wilson Street until 4th December. The B5093 Wilmslow Road in Fallowfield has temporary traffic lights from A6010 Wilmslow Road to Sherwood Street until 17:00 on 25th January 2027.
In Oldham, the A62 Manchester Road is closed in both directions from Alfred Street to the A6048 until 6:00 on 24th October. The A627 Oldham Way is closed at A62 Manchester Street until 0:00 on 16th October, with a diversion via the roundabout underneath. The A671 Rochdale Road in Royton is closed northbound from B6195 Middleton Road to Radcliffe Street until 29th January 2027.
Temporary traffic lights are also in place on the A635 Holmfirth Road in Greenfield at Tunstead Lane until 0:00 on 23rd October, and on the B6195 Middleton Road in Royton between Shepherd Street and A671 Rochdale Road, and at High Street, both until 29th January 2027.
Rochdale, Salford and Stockport
In Rochdale, temporary traffic lights are on the A680 Edenfield Road at Rooley Street until 0:00 on 16th October, and on the A6033 Todmorden Road in Littleborough between Elim Street and Reddyshore Brow until 0:00 on 23rd October, due to gas main and electricity work respectively.
In Salford, the A34 New Bailey Street has roadworks and a contraflow at Gore Street until 0:00 on 18th May 2027. The A6 Manchester Road West in Little Hulton has temporary traffic lights between A5082 Cleggs Lane and Peel Lane until 15th November. The A5066 Ordsall Lane at Taylorson Street South has temporary lights until 8th January 2027. East Ordsall Lane is closed due to a new road layout between Lockgate Square and Clermont Way until 0:59 on 21st July 2027. The B5320 Liverpool Road in Cadishead has temporary lights from B5471 Brinell Drive to Penry Avenue until 0:00 on 20th October, and from Ashfield Grove to B5471 Brinell Drive until 0:00 on 19th October, due to emergency repairs and gas main work.
In Stockport, temporary lights are on the A5102 Bramhall Lane South between Grasmere Crescent and Ramsdale Road until 6th November, and on the A5149 Wimslow Road in Cheadle between Kingston Hill and Schools Hill until 0:00 on 20th October, both due to gas main work. The B5166 Styal Road in Gatley has lights at Firs Road until 0:00 on 21st October.
Tameside and Wigan delays
In Tameside, one lane is closed on the A57 Mottram Moor eastbound from Stalybridge Road to A6018 Back Moor until 31st December 2027. The A635 Manchester Road in Mossley has temporary lights from Mill Lane to Queen Street until 16:00 on 16th October, and the A635 Wakefield Road in Stalybridge near Printworks Road has lights until 18:00 on 21st October due to telecoms work.
In Wigan, the A58 Gerard Street in Ashton in Makerfield is closed southbound from A5062 Wigan Road to A49 Bryn Street until 22nd November. Temporary lights are on the A58 Liverpool Road at St Oswalds Road until 17:00 on 26th November, on the A577 Sale Lane in Tyldesley at A5082 Hough Lane until 30th November, on the A577 Tyldesley Road in Atherton at Kay Street until 30th November, on the A58 Bolton Road between A5062 Wigan Road and B5207 Bryn Road until 17:00 on 26th November, and on the A5082 Hough Lane in Tyldesley between A577 Sale Lane and Guided Busway until 30th November.
