Aberdeen are closing in on a £300,000 deal for Livingston winger Lewis Smith. The Dons have had a bid accepted by the Championship side, and Smith has been given permission to travel north to complete the move. If all goes well, the 26-year-old is expected to sign a long-term contract at Pittodrie.
Smith's standout season despite Livingston relegation
Smith was a standout performer for Livingston last season despite the club's relegation from the Scottish Premiership. He scored seven goals and contributed a couple of assists, catching the attention of Aberdeen manager Stephen Robinson. The winger sat out of Scott Pittman's testimonial against Hearts on Friday as the transfer accelerated.
10th summer signing for Robinson
Smith will become Robinson's 10th signing of the summer if the deal is completed. The Dons had been chasing Smith for several weeks, with both Aberdeen and Kilmarnock having multiple bids turned down. Aberdeen upped their offer after selling Finnish international Topi Keskinen to Odense for over £1 million last week.
Robinson revealed after his side's final friendly win over Linfield on Saturday that they were close to signing one of two wingers they wanted, and Smith is that man. The Aberdeen manager believes Smith can add more quality in the final third, bringing experience and Scottish know-how to the squad.
Smith's journey from Hamilton to Livingston
Smith has been a key player for Livingston since Davie Martindale signed him from Hamilton in 2024. His performances have been instrumental for the club, and now he is set for a move to the Scottish Premiership. Robinson has already added several players this summer, including Lewis Mayo, Brad Lyons, Dan Happe, Nesta Guinness-Parker, Alexander Briedl, Connor Ronan, Tony Yogane, Toyosi Olusanya, and Ayoub Mouloua.
Smith is expected to make his Aberdeen debut in the Premier Sports Cup opener at Brora Rangers on Tuesday night, provided the deal is finalized in time.
