Wetherspoons Accelerates Expansion with Three New Pubs in Four Days
In a significant move for the hospitality sector, pub giant Wetherspoons is set to open three new establishments within a mere four-day period, marking its most rapid expansion to date. This development comes as part of a strategic partnership with holiday park operator Haven, with the new venues timed to capitalise on the upcoming Easter holidays.
Details of the New Openings
The expansion will commence with The Springfield, which will welcome its first customers on Tuesday, March 31st, at Haven's Cala Gran site near Blackpool. This venue, with a capacity for approximately 600 patrons, stands as the largest of the three new pubs.
Just three days later, on Friday, April 3rd, two additional pubs will open simultaneously: The White Clover at Haven's Hopton park in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, and The Bluff at the Riviere Sands site in Hayle, Cornwall.
Strategic Growth and Impact
With these latest additions, Wetherspoons will operate a total of nine pubs across Haven holiday parks throughout the United Kingdom. Collectively, these venues are projected to serve an impressive one million pints over the course of 2026, highlighting the scale of this collaboration.
This initiative aligns with Wetherspoons' broader strategy to forge partnerships with other operators, facilitating growth both domestically and internationally. The company recently announced plans to open two additional pubs in Spain, both located at Josep Tarradellas Barcelona – El Prat airport, following the successful launch of its first continental European venue at Alicante Airport last month.
Design and Employment Opportunities
True to the brand's signature style, each new pub will feature specially designed carpets that reflect local themes:
- The Springfield: Named after Springfield House, which occupied the site in the 1960s, its carpet incorporates a glass-domed ceiling motif of the Marine Hall in Fleetwood.
- The White Clover: Inspired by the white clover flower, a symbol of good luck in Norfolk, the design showcases coastal surroundings.
- The Bluff: Referencing the steep cliff edge where it is situated, the flooring draws inspiration from the Hayle Estuary.
These three openings follow closely on the heels of The Alfred Wainwright, which debuted at Haven's Lakeland site in Cumbria in mid-March. Together, these four new pubs are expected to generate around 400 jobs, providing a boost to local employment.
Executive Commentary
Simon Palethorpe, Chief Executive of Haven, expressed enthusiasm for the expansion, stating: "I know just how much holiday makers will enjoy these three new Wetherspoons this Easter. Along with one we opened at Haven Lakeland at the start of March, they're a fantastic addition to our parks for 2026."
He further noted: "Since 2021 we've invested over £700 million, including in a total of nine Wetherspoons, creating fantastic places to come and enjoy the best the British coast has to offer."
This expansion builds on previous successes, such as the opening of one of Wetherspoons' largest venues at Haven's Devon Cliffs site in Exmouth, Devon, last May. That pub, capable of accommodating nearly 700 customers, is estimated to serve up to 2,000 pints daily.
