Vinnies Op-Shop Fashion Show: Volunteers Model $25 Outfits

Five Melbourne branches of the St Vincent de Paul Society network of charity shops have teamed up to put on a unique fashion parade at Footscray’s Bluestone Hall. The event showcased outfits sourced directly from their donation bins, styled and modelled entirely by volunteers.

Empowerment Through Pre-Loved Fashion

Yenny Gonzels, modelling for the second time at the Vinnies fashion showcase, expressed feeling 'empowered and sexy' in her outfit. The event brought together volunteers from Footscray, Newport, Moonee Ponds, Ascot Vale and Hoppers Crossing, accompanied by a sausage sizzle.

All the outfits featured on the runway came directly from Vinnies stores, demonstrating the creative potential of pre-loved clothing. Volunteers Lily Gerardi and Russia Newman were part of the show’s creative team, helping to style the looks.

Volunteer model Elena Hogan shared her excitement: 'It’s a fun opportunity to just do this in a playful context and meet lots of people and everyone looks really cool.' Backstage, a model adjusted a cravat, adding a touch of vintage charm.

Growing Impact of the Vinnies Fashion Show

Neil Harvey, general manager of retail at Vinnies Victoria, described the event as 'fantastic,' noting how creatively people make use of pre-loved fashion. 'Each year the Vinnies fashion show gets bigger and better. The fashion parade is a reminder that small moments add up to real impact,' he said.

Model Jake Roach, wearing florals with a fluoro fluffy jacket and brown loafers, said, 'I feel very fierce, and I feel confident, comfortable, relaxed.' Another model, Jacob Hammer, estimated his outfit cost a total of $25 and added, 'I like to rock femme as well as masculine.'

After the show, models took a break outside, celebrating a successful event that highlighted sustainability, creativity, and community spirit.
