A trip to Trearddur Bay in Anglesey, North Wales, has been hailed as the ultimate seaside hidden gem, according to a recent study by Insure4Boats. The unassuming resort topped the list for its Blue Flag beaches and appeal to water sports enthusiasts.
One visitor from Leeds, seeking a coastal escape, was drawn to the bay where her grandmother grew up. She found the waters, though icy in early June, refreshing and worth braving. The beach offers long sandy shores, ice cream stalls, and ideal spots for sunbathing and picnics.
The bay is part of the 130-mile Anglesey Coastal Path, providing access to stunning walks. Highlights include South Stack Lighthouse, reached by descending 400 steps, and the Ty Mawr Hut Circles, ancient Celtic Iron Age huts with views of Snowdonia.
Two surprises stood out: the visitor, who suffers from asthma, found she could breathe easily without her inhaler, attributing it to the clean seaside air. Additionally, the area was remarkably quiet, even at popular spots like the lighthouse, offering a peaceful experience without crowds.
