As the UK grapples with a winter cold snap, many Britons are already planning their next escape. According to travel expert Kelsey, who posts as @kelseyinlondon on TikTok, January is actually an ideal month to travel, offering warm temperatures and smaller crowds than peak summer.
Thailand tops the list with average temperatures of 30°C during its dry season, promising endless blue skies and turquoise waters. Dubai follows, with January averages of 25°C. Kelsey notes: 'January in Dubai is the perfect balance of warm days and cool evenings. Soak up the sun at beach clubs, explore the desert by hot air balloon, and enjoy alfresco dining in Dubai Marina.'
The Maldives offers 28°C heat and crystal-clear waters, perfect for snorkelling or relaxing in overwater villas. Morocco's Marrakech sits at a comfortable 21°C with fewer tourists, ideal for exploring souks and rooftop dining. For a European option, the Canary Islands average 22°C, providing beach days and volcanic hikes without summer crowds.
Barbados, at 28°C, is in its peak dry season. Kelsey says: 'It’s peak dry season, so you can spend all day lazing on white sand beaches, sipping rum punches, and enjoying the island’s incredible laidback vibes.' Finally, Egypt’s Red Sea coast (including Hurghada and Sharm El Sheikh) offers 24°C, sunshine, and warm waters for diving.
These destinations all reach above 22°C in January, making them perfect for a winter sun getaway.
