Blackpool Tower has been named the most complained-about landmark in the UK, according to an analysis of Tripadvisor reviews. The iconic seaside structure, standing at 518 feet and built in 1894, received a 9.4% score for 'bad' or 'terrible' ratings, making it the second worst globally after the Palace of Versailles in France.
Visitors have criticised the tower for overcrowding, high costs, and a poor 4D film experience. One reviewer wrote, 'If I could leave 0 stars I would. Booked our tickets two hours in advance, when we came back they said the tower was shut because of high winds. Fair enough but wouldn’t give us our money back.' Another said the 4D film was 'absolutely awful' and the lift ride 'overcrowded', though they admitted the views from the top were 'fabulous' but overpriced.
Many visitors felt let down by changes since their childhood visits. One reviewer lamented that the tower now charges 'ridiculous rates' for different sections, adding, 'It’s all about the money now and the experience and joy has been sucked dry.' The analysis found that ten of the 20 most complained-about landmarks worldwide are in the UK, with Blackpool Tower topping the domestic list.
The findings highlight a growing dissatisfaction among tourists with some of the UK's most popular attractions, citing long waits, poor service, and high ticket prices. Despite its historic charm, Blackpool Tower appears to leave many visitors disappointed, ranking just behind Versailles for the most negative reviews globally.
