Silver Dollar City has announced that its Thunderation roller coaster will close in January 2027, giving visitors one last season to ride the attraction that has been a staple of the park since 1993.
A coaster with an 1880s mine theme
Thunderation takes riders through a setting styled after an 1880s mine, reaching a height of 80 feet and a top speed of 48 miles per hour. It has become one of the most popular rides at the theme park, which first opened in 1966 between Branson and Branson West in the Ozark Mountains of southwestern Missouri.
Since opening, the park has expanded to more than 40 rides and seven roller coasters. The last day to ride Thunderation will be January 2, 2027.
New attractions teased
Silver Dollar City has teased new attractions as part of its development plans, but no formal announcement has explained the reason for the ride's closure.
Commemorative merchandise, including T-shirts, hats, and mugs, has been made available for visitors who want to remember the coaster.
Other US park closures
The announcement follows other theme park closures in the US. Fun Spot America in Atlanta, Georgia, originally opened as Dixieland Fun Park in 1990, will close for good on August 2.
