Snooze Café in Glasgow's East End is serving tattie scone nachos, a Scottish twist on the Mexican dish, priced at £9.50 and available all day every day. The dish swaps traditional salsa, sour cream and guacamole for lorne sausage, haggis, crispy onions and peppercorn sauce.
A Scottish take on nachos
Located at 868 Shettleston Road, the cosy café offers all-day breakfast and brunch with a wide variety of menu options. The tattie scone nachos still qualify as a breakfast dish despite the savoury toppings replacing the usual accompaniments.
Potato scones are sliced into thin triangles to mimic tortilla chips and cooked until fluffy inside with a light crisp on the outside. The portion size is generous, with the bowl filled to the brim with toppings and sauce, hiding the golden potato scones underneath.
Generous portion, reasonable price
The dish is priced at £9.50, which was considered very reasonable given the generous portion size. The nachos arrived quickly and were freshly made and piping hot. The portion included a big helping of every ingredient, with an estimated six or seven potato scones used in the dish.
The peppercorn sauce was found to be a little overpowering, making it hard to taste much of the sausage or onion. However, for those who are big peppercorn sauce fans, this unique breakfast is likely to be a hit.
Availability and extras
The potato scone nachos are available all day every day during the café's opening hours from 8am to 4pm on weekdays and 9am to 4pm on weekends. Alongside the breakfast, a hazelnut iced latte was tried and found to be lovely. Other iced coffee flavours include roasted marshmallow and pumpkin spice syrup for those in an autumnal mood.
The tattie scone nachos were described as tasting excellent, with the Scottish theme enhanced by the lorne sausage and haggis on top. A visit to Snooze Café comes recommended.
