British holidaymakers heading to Spain this summer face potential disruption as air traffic controllers in France plan to strike on July 3 and 4. The industrial action, called by the UNSA-ICNA union, could affect flights passing through French airspace, particularly those from the UK to Majorca and other Spanish destinations.
The strike coincides with the start of the peak summer season and falls just before the French school summer holidays. Flights may be delayed or cancelled, with possible knock-on effects in the following days. Other unions may also join the action, worsening the situation.
Additionally, EasyJet cabin crew in Spain are set to strike on June 25, 26, and 27. The Unión Sindical Obrera (USO) says over 650 flight attendants based in Alicante, Barcelona, Malaga, and Palma de Mallorca could walk out, demanding higher wages and better working conditions.
Ryanair CEO Michael O'Leary has warned of a summer of chaos due to air traffic control understaffing and mismanagement in several countries. The strikes add to concerns for UK travellers planning trips to Spain.
