The UK's best seaside town to visit in 2026 has been named by Time Out, and it's not Brighton or Blackpool. Instead, the underrated Welsh destination of Saundersfoot in Pembrokeshire has taken the top spot, beating popular spots like St Ives, Folkestone, and Brighton.
Why Saundersfoot?
With the opening of the King Charles III Coastal Path making the entire UK coastline walkable, holidaymakers are seeking budget-friendly breaks closer to home. Saundersfoot, nestled between Tenby and Amroth, offers a sweeping sandy beach and a lively harbour, making it an ideal retreat from city life. It's roughly a two-hour drive from Cardiff and even closer to Swansea.
The Beach
Saundersfoot boasts what Time Out described as "one of the most gorgeous beaches of any British seaside resort." This Blue Flag beach sits at the heart of the village, serving as a natural gathering point. A short walk east reveals a more tranquil spot among rock pools and green headlands. The town's historic tramway runs along the top of the beach, offering charming tunnels leading towards Saundersfoot.
One TripAdvisor reviewer said: "Lovely beach to walk on, very clean and close to the town with shops and cafes literally just a street over." Another added: "When the tide is out, this is dog heaven! I've seen sea cucumbers, muscles, jelly fish and razor clams on the beach."
The Harbour
First granted permission in 1829 for coal export, the harbour has grown into the town's beating heart. It hosts outdoor events, concerts, and markets, and is home to private moorings, pleasure boats, and fishing charters. Guests have called it "The best location in Saundersfoot," with waterfront rooms available through Harbour Stays.
Food and Drink
Saundersfoot offers traditional pubs, bistros, and cafes. Mamgu's Welshcakes, mentioned by Time Out, serves traditional bakes with sea views. The Royal Oak, founded in 1837, is a top spot for pub grub and live music. The Stone Crab is a beloved seafood institution with hundreds of glowing reviews. One diner said: "This is the best restaurant in Saundersfoot, the best fish restaurant in Wales, and the one restaurant I would like to pick up and move closer to home."
