A new study by insurance firm Reassured has named Salzburg, Austria, as Europe's safest city. The research, based on Numbeo data, highlights the city's low crime rates and high sense of security among residents.
According to the findings, 90 per cent of locals feel safe walking alone at night. The city's historic Old Town (Altstadt) is particularly praised for its walkability and concentration of attractions.
Salzburg, known as Mozart's birthplace, is also recommended as an excellent destination for expat families. Swiss city Zug and Leiden in the Netherlands took second and third places in the safety rankings.
Switzerland dominated the list, with several of its cities scoring highly. All ranked destinations were deemed significantly safer than major UK cities such as London and Leeds.
