Pilot Hails Barcelona as Most Beautiful Landing Spot

A Wizz Air pilot has revealed that Barcelona is the most beautiful place to land an aircraft, citing the stunning approach over mountains and sea, with iconic landmarks visible from the cockpit.

Pilot's Perspective from 41,000 Feet

Tom Copestake, a pilot for Wizz Air, spends his working hours at 41,000 feet, crossing time zones and witnessing parts of the world few ever see. He described the experience as exhilarating, making him feel small yet connected to the planet's vastness. 'There are parts of the earth that we look down on that no one has ever walked on - it's really cool,' he said exclusively to the Mirror.

Barcelona: A Spectacular Approach

Among the many destinations he has flown to, Barcelona stands out for its landing. 'Barcelona is a beautiful place to land. We approach from the UK, the north, so we fly over the mountains, over the ocean and then swing round to the right, and there's the city,' Copestake explained. 'You can see the Sagrada Família and the cathedral, and you've got this big expanse of an airport - it's really cool.'

New Destinations and Excitement

Copestake, who has flown over 750 flights to more than 50 countries in four years, is particularly looking forward to landing in Yerevan, Armenia, a new Wizz Air destination surrounded by mountains. He also expressed excitement about flying to Mykonos, Greece, where the approach involves flying over the sea before landing on a small island.

Favourite Holiday Spot

When asked about his personal favourite holiday destination, Copestake chose Split in Croatia. 'I absolutely adore it. It has a mix of Mediterranean vibes, old architecture and castles, which is really cool,' he said.

Underrated European Destination

Copestake also highlighted Bilbao in northern Spain as an overlooked gem. 'I flew into Bilbao about two weeks ago - it's a tremendous destination on the north coast. It was surrounded by what looked like amazing mountains or hills for hiking,' he noted. He also recommended San Sebastián, just down the road from Bilbao, as an amazing place to explore.

New Wizz Air Routes

Wizz Air is launching direct flights from London Luton to Yerevan on 12 June, operating twice a week with one-way fares from £36.99. The airline has also expanded its Greek connections, with flights to Chania, Corfu, Mykonos, Rhodes, Santorini, and Zakynthos, starting from around £42.24 one-way to Mykonos.
