Swan Hellenic's SH Minerva offers a refined expedition cruise experience with a European aesthetic, combining Scandinavian and Italian design elements. The ship, accommodating 152 passengers, focuses on off-the-beaten-path destinations, with repositioning cruises between the Arctic and Antarctic and recent itineraries in Asia.
Design and Atmosphere
The interior exudes elegance and calm. The Observation Lounge features modular sofas and armchairs in cream and light grey, creating a sophisticated space for lectures or pre-dinner drinks. All drinks except premium brands are included. This luxurious yet understated style is consistent throughout the ship.
Included Excursions and Wow Factor
Daily included excursions set Swan Hellenic apart. On a Japan cruise, guests visited Hiroshima, Kyoto, and lesser-known spots like Shimonoseki's fish market, where sushi costs about £1 per piece. An included tour to Mount Haguro involved walking a pilgrimage path through cedar woods to a 14th-century pagoda. Optional trips, such as a $180 visit to Matsue Castle, offered uncrowded experiences.
Cabins and Amenities
Balcony staterooms feature serene Scandi design with fluted cupboards, a grey sofa, and a king-size bed convertible to twins. Amenities include two wardrobes, a feature fireplace with electric fire and crackling sound effects, an electric kettle, coffee machine, refillable water bottle, and a stocked fridge. The desk transforms into a dressing table with a lighted mirror. The bathroom has a powerful overhead shower, storage, and La Jatica by Bocelli 1831 toiletries. All 76 cabins have balconies except deck 4's sea-view window cabins.
Onboard Lifestyle
The ship offers a small infinity pool on deck 7, a hot tub on deck 8, a gym with sea views, and a spa with treatments like La Mer Signature Facial ($375) and Balinese massage ($180 for 60 minutes). Zodiac boats are available for polar expeditions, though not used on the Japan cultural cruise. The Observation Lounge serves as the social hub, while a free laundrette with washing machines and ironing boards is popular among passengers.
