Norwegian has announced the extension of its popular Newcastle Airport to Copenhagen route into the winter season, offering twice-weekly flights from October through January 2027. One-way fares start at just £49.60, responding to high demand for city breaks in the Danish capital.
Flight Schedule and Pricing
Services will operate every Friday and Sunday, providing travellers with convenient weekend getaway options. The low-cost carrier's decision comes amid sustained interest in Copenhagen's festive attractions, including its world-famous Christmas markets and New Year celebrations.
Chris Ion, Head of Aviation Development at Newcastle Airport, said: "Copenhagen continues to be one of our most popular city-break destinations, so it’s fantastic to see Norwegian extend this route into the winter season. This investment gives our passengers even more choice when planning festive getaways and the opportunity to experience Copenhagen at its most magical."
Winter Attractions in Copenhagen
Visitors can enjoy outdoor skating rinks such as Frederiksberg Runddel, set next to the picturesque Frederiksberg Gardens. Tivoli Gardens, one of the world's oldest amusement parks, transforms into a winter wonderland with dazzling lights, rides, and stalls serving mulled wine, hot chocolate, and handcrafted gifts.
Throughout the city, cafes and restaurants serve traditional Danish treats like gløgg (sweet, hot mulled wine) and risalamande (rice pudding). Unique local traditions include Saint Lucy’s Day celebrations on December 13, when hundreds of illuminated kayaks glide through the city’s canals.
Strengthening Connections
Sara Neergaard, Country Director at Norwegian Denmark, said: "Strong customer demand has given us the confidence to extend our Newcastle–Copenhagen route into the winter season. We continue to see growing interest in city-break travel, and Copenhagen is a destination that has so much to offer during the festive months. We’re pleased to provide our customers with more choice and flexibility while further strengthening the connection between North East England and Denmark."
The extension also aims to attract Danish visitors to North East England, boosting winter tourism in the region.
