Shearer and Lineker Question VAR Consistency After Arsenal Win

Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer have both expressed concerns over the consistency of VAR decisions following West Ham United's disallowed goal against Arsenal. The goal was ruled out for a foul on Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya, a decision that allowed Arsenal to maintain their five-point lead at the top of the Premier League table.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, Shearer said: 'I do think it was a foul, but I also think the one at Everton last week with Bernardo Silva when that wasn't given in terms of holding clearly the defender. Where was VAR for that one?' He also referenced a similar incident at Old Trafford earlier in the season, highlighting the lack of consistency.

Lineker added: 'Probably a foul, but that's not quite what VAR is supposed to be, is it? If I were a West Ham fan or indeed a Manchester City fan, I think I'd be a little bit angry tonight because there was a lot of fouling going on at that corner.' He noted that while goalkeepers are protected, other grappling incidents were overlooked.

The decision has sparked debate among fans and pundits, with many pointing to comparable incidents that have gone unpunished this season. The result leaves Arsenal in control of the title race, with two games remaining and a five-point advantage over Manchester City, who have a game in hand.
