Morrisons adds Harry Ramsdens fish and chips to 32 cafés

Morrisons has begun serving Harry Ramsdens' fish, chips and mushy peas in 32 of its cafés across the UK, marking the first time the classic dish has been available in the supermarket's in-store kitchens. The rollout started on August 10 and includes locations in Leeds, Reading, Leicester and Exeter.

Partnership model expands brand reach

The venture operates under Harry Ramsdens' 'Proudly Serving' partnership model, which has allowed the brand to expand beyond its own restaurants into major retailers, including frozen food giant Iceland. This is not the first collaboration between the two brands: a range of Harry Ramsdens products, such as battered cod fillets, chunky fish fingers and steak pies, has been stocked in Morrisons' chilled section and online since September 2025.

Harry Ramsdens has built its reputation as "the home of world-famous fish and chips" since opening in 1928 as a wooden hut in Guiseley, West Yorkshire. The brand celebrated its 21st birthday with "the big fry", serving more than 1,000 portions in a single day and breaking a world record at the time.

Ambition to grow beyond restaurants

Today, there are eight standalone Harry Ramsdens restaurants, all located in England, while its products are available in over 2,000 shops across nine countries. The café rollout is part of Harry Ramsdens' wider ambition to grow beyond its traditional restaurant presence.

Morrisons senior café trading manager Will Reed said: "Harry Ramsden's is an iconic British brand, and we're excited to introduce its famous fish and chips to customers in our cafés this summer." He added that the supermarket wanted to offer customers the "comforting taste of a classic chippy tea", with generous portions and great value.

Chief Executive James Fleming described the café deal as a significant opportunity to bring the brand to millions of new customers through a trusted national supermarket. He explained that the partnership would allow the company to broaden access to its fish and chips while maintaining the quality and heritage the brand is known for.

Morrisons' market position and café list

Morrisons is one of the top six supermarkets in the UK with an 8.5% market share and operates around 500 larger supermarkets, alongside a convenience-store network of more than 1,600 Morrisons Daily locations, including around 600 franchise stores. The supermarket produces more than half of the fresh food it sells.
