More than 200 easyJet passengers have been left stranded in Morocco after a 'technical issue' cancelled their flight back to Manchester Airport. The travellers were due to fly from Marrakesh Menara Airport on Wednesday (June 10) but will now spend an additional night in the north African nation.
Adam Ramouz, 35, from Salford, described witnessing the aircraft being 'tugged away' while he stood ready to board. The flight had already been delayed by two hours, and after passengers from Manchester disembarked, Adam and fellow travellers faced a further two-hour hold before the plane was towed. He said it wasn't until late afternoon that they received an email confirming the cancellation, resulting in almost a 10-hour wait for information.
Adam criticised the lack of communication, stating there was 'barely anybody to speak to at the airport'. He added that temporary accommodation arrangements caused confusion, with some families left without rooms. 'Everybody has got their lives to get back to,' he said, noting he is a full-time carer for his mother and had to call on family to look after her.
EasyJet confirmed that the flight was rescheduled to Thursday (June 11) due to the impact of the delay on crew safety-regulated hours. The airline said it is providing hotel accommodation and meals for those affected, and apologised for the inconvenience.
