Atmospheric Lake District Country House Retreat for Couples
Lake District Country House Retreat for Couples

The Pavillion, a holiday cottage set within the grounds of Kirklinton Hall in Cumbria, offers couples a romantic countryside escape surrounded by 14 acres of gardens, woodland and open meadows. Located about a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Liverpool, the property is being praised for its glamorous aesthetic.

A Historic Setting with Modern Comforts

Inside, guests find a welcoming living and dining area with a woodburning stove, ideal for relaxing after a day of exploring. Upstairs, the cottage features a king-size bedroom and a shower room. The property sleeps two guests and comes with Wi-Fi, a Smart TV, private parking and a patio area with garden furniture.

The setting itself is a major draw. Kirklinton Hall is a partly ruined 17th-century country house, with grounds that include gardens, woodland walks and peaceful meadows. Riverside paths run through the estate, with a beck flowing towards the River Lyne.

Exploring the Surrounding Area

The cottage is well placed for exploring the Lake District, Hadrian's Wall and the Scottish Borders. It suits walking holidays, romantic weekends or simply a chance to enjoy peace and quiet.

Guest reviews highlight the property's character and comfort. One visitor said: "The grounds are lovely and the property itself has so much character, sensitively renovated and tastefully furnished. The log burner is great for cosy evenings and a generous basket of logs/kindling was provided."

Mixed Feedback and Owner Response

The same review added: "The property was spotlessly clean when we arrived and had everything we needed, even a Nespresso coffee machine. Large comfortable bed, opulent sofa, spacious bathroom with an excellent shower. We loved it and thoroughly enjoyed our week here. An exceptional place to stay, as close as we'll ever get to being lord and lady of the manor!"

A second review read: "We stayed over new year in The Tower and promised we'd be back! We returned for the husbands 'big birthday' and The Pavilion did not disappoint."

One negative review raised cleanliness concerns: "Accommodation needed some cleaning especially the oven in the kitchen which was really dirty, and the grout in the bathroom shower tiles showed signs of mould. A slip mat and grab rail in the shower would have been welcomed and furnishings were past their best. Apart from that the location was amazing and we did enjoy our stay."

The owner responded: "After your stay I did have to give the grout in the shower a lot of work, this is done between stays if it requires it and after your stay it definitely required it more than normal which I can only put down to the heat of the week (hottest week on record)." At the time of writing, three nights in November is priced at £359.
