Sun-seekers looking for an affordable getaway will be pleased to learn that the cheapest European destination for British holidaymakers has been identified. Despite concerns over rising travel costs, research indicates that prices for many popular hotspots have actually fallen.
Price Drops Across Europe
TravelSupermarket's analysis reveals that while the average cost of a seven-night summer holiday has increased by £23 per person, numerous destinations have become cheaper. For instance, Majorca and Corfu now cost less than before the Middle East conflict, which had previously driven up flight fares.
Experts suggest that the lower rates may be attributed to cautious travel behaviour among Brits and holiday companies' efforts to stimulate bookings. However, these reductions may not persist, especially as the peak summer season approaches and demand surges.
Top Affordable Destinations
The cheapest European destination is La Palma in Spain's Canary Islands, with an average price of £474 per person for a seven-night stay—a drop of £120. Known for its black-sand beaches, crystal-clear waters, and volcanic landscapes, La Palma remains a favourite among British tourists.
The second most affordable option is the Dalaman area of Turkey, costing £492 per person, down by £110. This region on Turkey's turquoise coast offers a Mediterranean climate, sandy beaches, and attractions like the Oludeniz Blue Lagoon.
Other notable savings include the Neapolitan Riviera in Italy, where prices fell by £232 to £905 per person. This scenic coastline features towns like Amalfi and Positano, along with Naples, the birthplace of pizza.
Additional Bargains
Outside Europe, the Dominican Republic saw a £130 price drop to £1,364 per person. The Amalfi Coast also became cheaper by £126, now averaging £1,073 per person.
Chris Webber, Head of Holidays and Deals at TravelSupermarket, commented: "Despite current uncertainty, summer holiday prices haven't moved dramatically—up by just £23 on average. For hesitant holidaymakers, this signals a good time to book. Prices won't stay this low indefinitely, and with many destinations seeing falls, now could be a smart time to secure a deal."
