Jet2's Hidden Perk: Free 10kg Luggage Boost for Families with Young Children
Families flying with Jet2 can access specific, no-cost perks designed to ease travel with young children, including a valuable 10kg luggage upgrade. The airline has implemented two complimentary policies that apply automatically, though awareness allows parents to maximise benefits. These offers are particularly relevant for families with children born after 2024, streamlining journeys without extra fees.
Infant Travel and Automatic Luggage Allowance Increase
Jet2 permits infants under two years old on the flight date to travel free when seated on an adult's lap, selected during booking. Although these infants do not receive their own checked bag, adding them to a booking automatically increases an accompanying adult's checked luggage allowance by 10kg at no charge. This boost raises the standard 22kg hold bag to a maximum of 32kg per suitcase.
A Jet2 spokesperson confirmed: "Although infants don’t have their own checked baggage allowance, if you have hold luggage on your booking, we’ll automatically increase your allowance by an extra 10kg per infant, free of charge. That gives you some more room for any extra items you want to check in for your infant. This additional allowance does not need to be pre-booked."
Check-in staff typically apply this allowance, and families report that total baggage can often be pooled across multiple cases, provided no single case exceeds 32kg. This flexibility helps distribute weight efficiently for group travel.
Extra Onboard Items for Infants
In addition to the luggage upgrade, Jet2 allows families to bring up to two essential items onboard at no extra cost. Permitted items include:
- A collapsible pushchair, pram, or buggy
- A car seat or booster seat
- A baby carrier
- A travel cot
Each item must weigh no more than 32kg, according to Jet2's rules. Families needing more than two items can bring extras, but the airline notes that any additional items or weight beyond the allowance "will be charged as standard excess baggage". These items can be checked in upon arrival or taken to the gate, offering convenience for parents managing young children.
Industry Context and Recent Travel Alerts
Similar family-friendly policies are common among airlines like easyJet and Ryanair, making Jet2's offers part of a broader industry trend. Meanwhile, Jet2 has issued an 'arrive early' alert for travellers flying from Faro Airport in southern Portugal, advising early arrival to avoid disruptions due to new border controls.
Faro Airport's website states: "Passport controls on arrival at Portugal may take up more time, as the passport will have to be stamped and there are additional questions that may be asked by the border control officers." This change stems from the European Union's European Entry/Exit System (EES), a digital border system launched on October 12, 2025, which is being phased in for non-EU and UK travellers, with full operation expected from April 2026.
By leveraging these free perks, families can reduce travel stress and costs, ensuring smoother journeys with young children. Always check Jet2's latest policies before flying to confirm eligibility and details.
