Grassington in North Yorkshire has been highlighted as a destination that offers the charm of the Cotswolds without the crowds, according to travel experts at Parkdean Resorts.
All the Cotswolds Charm Without the Crowds
The Cotswolds are known for their charming villages, cobbled streets and traditional stone cottages, but their popularity can make a summer visit feel crowded. Grassington, set in the Yorkshire Dales, offers a traditional cobbled centre surrounded by countryside, with independent businesses and eateries clustered around its historic streets.
The village features stone cottages, flower boxes and historic pubs similar to those in the Cotswolds, but without the high tourist numbers. Grassington was selected as the main filming location for the fictional village of Darrowby in All Creatures Great and Small.
Independent Shops and Walking Opportunities
The high street is filled with independent shops where visitors can buy handmade art and jewellery, sweet treats and books. Grassington is particularly suited for tourists who want to combine sightseeing with walking, allowing them to explore the village before heading out into the surrounding Dales.
Another Alternative: Rye in East Sussex
Parkdean Resorts also suggested Rye in East Sussex as another destination with Cotswolds charm without the crowds. Rye features historic streets, distinctive old buildings, independent shops and places to eat. Its location provides easy access to the Sussex coast, allowing visitors to explore the historic centre in the morning and visit nearby beaches and coastline later.
