Glencoe, described as one of Scotland's most spectacular Highland destinations, has been named among the UK's best weekend breaks by a travel expert. Hazel Rickett, CEO of small-group tour operator Rabbie's, included the Scottish Highlands destination in her top picks for a short autumn getaway.
A dramatic Highland escape
Rickett highlighted Glencoe's dramatic mountains, deep glens and breathtaking scenery. "While many travellers pass through on a road trip, it's well worth spending longer exploring everything the area has to offer," she said. Visitors can enjoy scenic walks, discover the glen's history and take in iconic landscapes, with waterfalls and wildlife within easy reach.
Rabbie's offers guided walking tours of Glencoe from £56 per adult. Intrepid Travel provides wider Scottish Highlands holidays and itineraries for longer trips. TripAdvisor lists cheap hotels in Glencoe from around £73 a night outside peak travel dates such as school holidays and weekends.
Other Scottish picks
Rickett also recommended the Outer Hebrides, calling them "one of Britain's most rewarding island escapes" for their white-sand beaches, turquoise waters, ancient standing stones and traditional Gaelic culture. She noted Orkney as another must-visit, saying "few places in Britain offer quite the same sense of discovery" with its Neolithic Heart of Orkney UNESCO World Heritage Site, villages and coastal scenery.
