The Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has issued an urgent health alert for eight countries, warning travellers to reconsider plans due to heightened risks. The alert comes as part of a broader advisory covering 68 nations where travel is discouraged.
The FCDO advises against all travel or all but essential travel to these destinations, citing dangers such as political unrest, warfare, terrorism, or severe weather conditions. Ignoring this advice could leave travellers uninsured and at risk.
Among the countries on the list are Lebanon, Ukraine, and Iran, with recent updates reflecting escalating tensions in the Middle East. The FCDO warns that the situation in Iran and Israel is changing rapidly, following missile attacks and military actions in October 2024.
The FCDO defines essential travel as a personal decision based on individual circumstances, but stresses that only the traveller can assess the risks. The full list of 68 countries is available on the FCDO website.
