Florence Crowned World's Top Foodie Destination in Global Study
Florence Named World's Best Food Destination in Study

A new global study has officially crowned the beautiful European city of Florence as the world's premier destination for food lovers, offering an unparalleled gastronomic experience for travellers. Conducted by Titan Travel, the research meticulously analysed factors such as cooking class availability, ratings, pricing, and worldwide search demand to determine the top spots for culinary-inspired getaways.

Italy Dominates the Culinary Rankings

Italy's culinary prowess was overwhelmingly evident in the findings, with the country securing all three top positions. Following Florence in first place, Palermo claimed a strong second, while Bologna took third. Rome then tied for fourth with Lisbon, Portugal, showcasing a diverse mix of European flavours. Venice, Brussels, and Barcelona shared fifth place, highlighting the global appeal of food tourism.

Florence's Impressive Foodie Credentials

Researchers discovered that Florence boasts a staggering 213,300 culinary experiences, making it a haven for food enthusiasts. This includes 231 cooking classes, with an impressive 74.5% holding a four-star rating or above, ensuring high-quality, immersive activities for visitors. From traditional Tuscan dishes to modern interpretations, the city offers a rich tapestry of flavours and skills to learn.

Adding to its appeal, budget-friendly travel options are available, with Skyscanner listing flights to Florence starting from just £31, depending on booking times. This affordability makes it an accessible destination for food lovers seeking an authentic culinary adventure without breaking the bank.

The Rise of Food Tourism

Commenting on the growing trend of food tourism, Cassie Stickland, Product Manager at Titan Travel, emphasised its significance in modern travel planning. "Today, travellers want to do more than just see the sights," she said. "They want to really experience a destination. Food is such a fantastic way to do that, because it connects you directly to local life and tradition. Taking a cooking class abroad allows you to do something, learn something, and return with a valuable skill."

Stickland advised travellers planning their 2026 getaways to seek out tours that include hands-on cooking experiences. "The best ones start with a market visit to get ingredients and end with you sitting down to enjoy what you've created," she explained. "The most rewarding experiences tend to come from local chefs and family-run kitchens, where you'll not only learn recipes but hear the stories behind them."
