EasyJet's new Family Holiday Index has ranked Sardinia as the sixth-best family destination for 2026, praising its beaches, activities, and accessibility from the UK. The Italian island, often called the 'Caribbean of Europe', offers flights from as little as £35.60 one way in May.
The index considers factors like travel logistics, beach access, cost, and family activities. Sardinia scored highly due to its two main airports: Cagliari Elmas and Olbia Costa Smeralda. EasyJet operates seasonal services to Olbia from Bristol, Edinburgh, London-Gatwick, and London-Luton, while Ryanair and British Airways serve Cagliari.
Flight times range from two-and-a-half to three hours. A package for four at Borgo di Campagna, departing May 8, costs £340 per person, with an extra £100 off using code SPRINGSALE. La Pelosa beach, with soft white sand and gentle turquoise waters, is ideal for children, though visitor numbers are limited from June to October with a €3.50 entry fee for over-12s.
The Costa Smeralda offers 35 miles of coastline with upscale resorts and designer shops. Boat trips to La Maddalena Archipelago allow swimming and snorkelling. History-loving kids can explore Su Nuraxi di Barumini, a Bronze Age site, or Cagliari's Roman Amphitheatre. Sardinian street food, like Spianadina flatbreads, is generally kid-friendly.
