Celtic are on the verge of completing a record-breaking transfer for Kasper Hogh, with the Bodo/Glimt striker set to be unveiled within 24 hours. The Scottish champions have agreed a deal worth over £11 million for the 25-year-old Denmark international, making him the most expensive player in the club's history.
Former Celtic striker Vidar Riseth, now a pundit in Norway, believes the Hoops have secured a bargain. He told Record Sport that Hogh could have commanded a fee closer to £20 million given his Champions League pedigree.
Champions League pedigree
Hogh earned a fearsome reputation last season by scoring against Manchester City, Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan, and Sporting Lisbon in Europe's elite competition. His arrival is a major statement as manager Martin O'Neill assembles a new-look strikeforce, having already signed Camilo Duran for £6 million.
Riseth said: 'He's a very good striker. He's been showing now for many years that he is Champions League level, so this is a good signing for Celtic. He's been the main man for Bodo/Glimt and has been first-choice always.'
Comparisons to Mark Viduka
The former Norway international, who spent two seasons at Celtic and played alongside Mark Viduka, sees similarities between the Australian and Hogh. 'Kasper's a target striker, he's strong and I would say a similar player as Mark Viduka. He's good in the air and he's really good when you come around on the side with the crosses in the box. He can hold the ball and link up play.'
Hogh, who was the Europa League top scorer in 2024/25, has scored roughly half his goals with his head. Riseth added: 'He definitely will score lots of goals for Celtic. I think all the players around him will score more goals as well. If defenders don't follow him, he will score. He will give more space to the other players as well.'
Handling the pressure
Despite playing in front of crowds of around 6,000 in the Arctic Circle, Hogh has also starred in iconic stadiums like the San Siro, Signal Iduna Park, and Metropolitano Stadium. Riseth believes the 6ft 1in striker can handle the full house at Celtic Park, though he plans to advise him on the unique Glasgow atmosphere.
'I think this is a good step to go to a huge club like Celtic,' Riseth said. 'If he does well, he's a player who likes to stay as long as he can. But in the future, some other clubs will pick him up if he does so well.'
